Hundreds of pages of Motorcycle Dealer correspondence dating from 1914 to 1942. (See pictures 1 & 7)
This collection comprises letters mailed out and received by a small motorcycle dealer named Joe J. Mott located at 25 Cherry Street, 422 Madison Street, and later, 37 Wick Street, Buffalo, New York.The letters weigh 5lb. (See picture 1)
The content of his frequently hand written letters entail the following:1) Costs involved repairing, buying, selling and trading complete motorcycles, sidecars and parts for Indian, Harley-Davidson, Thor, Yale, Henderson, ACE, Excelsior, Pierce, Curtiss, Royal Pioneer.
2) Personal letters to and from customers, some of whom were dissatisfied with the used parts received, quality of work, late payments, poor correspondence etc., etc.3) Inquiries to manufacturers (see Neracar, Thor, BSA, Norton, Matchless, among others) regarding starting an agency.
4) Offers to sell motorcycle engines to \"start up\" manufacturers of tiny cars, midget racing cars and light aircraft.5) Inquiries to tool manufacturers and motorcycle trade suppliers.6) Details of crating and shipping by railroad and meeting potential buyers, most of whom arrive by train.
7) Numerous other motorcycle business related subjects.Many of the letters received are from worldwide motorcycle manufacturers with price lists, requests for more information and details regarding motorcycle sales in the Buffalo area. (See pictures 3 & 4).
