Jolly Rogers F-4 Phantom Aircraft Carrier Marion Carl Aces Signed Aviation Art: $178
Very Low Inventory - Sold Out at Publisher!
Limited edition aviation art print Flying the Jolly Roger signed in pencil by Major General MARION CARL, Commander RANDY CUNNINGHAM, Colonel MANFRED RIETSCH and artist ROBERT WATTS. This is the Limited Edition of this print and is now SOLD OUT at the publisher. This image shows a pair of U.S. Navy F-4 Phantom fighters as they prepare to recover aboard the carrier U.S.S. Independence. The jets are shown decelerating as they prepare for a deck landing following a combat mission in 1965. This is a well-composed image, and looks stunning when framed.
Marion Carl was one of the few VMF-221 Wildcat pilots to survive the Battle of Midway. He was the first Marine fighter ace of the war and achieved 18.5 victories. In 1947 he held the world speed record and in 1953 the world altitude record. He was the first pilot to be launched from a carrier using a catapult.
Randy Cunningham became the first fighter ace of the Vietnam conflict, and was one of the most decorated aces of the war. He later assumed command of the Navy Adversary Squadron of the Miramar Top Gun program.
Manfred Rietsch joined VMFA-513 in Vietnam and by war’s end had flown 653 combat missions, more than any other F-4 pilot in Vietnam. He became the first Marine instructor at Top Gun and flew 66 combat missions in the F/A-18 in Desert Storm. In total, he has 7000 hours in tactical jets.
The photos do not do this print justice. Overall print size is approximately 36 by 24 inches. Flying the Jolly Roger was published as a signed and numbered edition of 1000 prints, with only 100 Artist Proofs. This is the Limited Edition. The COA is included. Print condition is excellent, never framed, and stored flat in acid-free materials.
