This is a vintage Chinese rosewood (or huali/hongmu-type hardwood) fall-front secretary desk (also called a drop-lid or writing desk) featuring extensive mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay. Pictures show classic characteristics: a polished deep reddish-brown rosewood body, ornate inlays depicting birds on flowering branches (likely plum or similar blossoms), additional floral and vine motifs on the sides, top, and drawer fronts, decorative border inlays, and traditional Chinese-style metal hardware (including medallion pulls on the drawers). When closed, the drop-front lid forms a large decorative panel; when open, it reveals a writing surface with pigeonhole compartments and a small interior drawer.
