⦁ 1939 New York World's Fair Billy Rose's Aquacade - This 1939 New York World's Fair Program (8 3/4 by 12 inches) is from the popular Billy Rose's Aquacade show. The souvenir program from "The Aquacade: A Masterpiece of Masonry, Beauty, and Entertainment" presented at the 1939 NY World's Fair and produced by NY night club owner, Billy Rose, noted for putting on over-the-top entertainments. This extravaganza was produced, staged and lighted by John Murray Anderson, with costumes by Raoul Pen du Bois, music by Dana Suesse, orchestra conducted by Vincent Travers, dances by Robert Alton, and starring Olympians Johnny Weissmuller and Eleanor Holm, Gertrude Ederle (first woman to swim the English Channel), as well as the Fred Waring Glee Club, vocalist Everett Marshall and many others. The setting for the Aquacade was a Deco amphitheatre This was apparently quite an aqua water ballet , with lush music and lavish lighting, featuring scenes such as "The Phosphorexcent Fantasy with Aquabelles and Aquabeaux", simulations of beaches on the French Riviera and Coney Island, and other pieces with The "Aquafemmes", "Aquagals", and "Aquadudes". Vintage Pepsi ad inside the front wrap, Chesterfield ad inside the back wrap. Overall in very good condition.
⦁ New York City Souvenir Album Camera Masterpieces: Golden Guide of the Metropolis - Published by Supervue Map and Guide Co. NY, 1937. This vintage souvenir paperback book is a collection of black and white photographs of New York City. Its original cost was 25 cents. The photographs were considered to be the masterpieces of the photographer's art and were intended to show all of the famous sites and buildings of New York City as seen by the most famous photographers of the time. It is a wonderful book of historic New York City with a model of the 1939 World's Fair at the end of the book and 1930's vehicles in many of the photographs. Each photograph has a caption telling about the building or street that the photographer has captured in his picture, so this is a very informative booklet that would be great for someone to own. Book measures 6 7/8 X 10, 76 pages of spectaular sepia-toned images. The front cover has "25" written in black marker and there is a very slight stain right next to it otherwise it is in very good condition.
⦁ 1939 World's Fair Your World Of Tomorrow Theme Presentation Book - This 20-page soft-cover book celebrates the theme of the 1939 New York World's Fair featuring futuristic, urban planning architecture. The New York Times wrote that this historic event "captured the spirit of two quintessential American traits: optimism and futurism. Perhaps it was best portrayed in General Motors' Futurama, an exhibition designed by Norman Bel Geddes. Geddes, a theatrical and industrial designer, accurately forecasted today's landscape shaped by automobiles and superhighways. 'Democracity,' which envisioned business and cultural centers enveloped by bedroom communities, also revealed the spirit of the age. These optimistic and forward-looking visions reflected in the 1939 World's Fair are telling. They suggest that Americans were aware that their lifestyles were going to change profoundly in the coming years." This well-illustrated book measures 9 by 12 inches. The front and back covers show some wear from tape/labels being removed. Also the book was folded in half at one time but lays flat. The pages inside are in great condition.
