Four blank ceremonial naval certificates published by the U.S. Naval Institute, Annapolis, Maryland. Purchased at liquidation of Hollywood Prop House
The lot includes two Golden Shellback certificates, one Imperium Neptuni Regis certificate, and one Order of the Square Rigger certificate specific to the USCG Barque Eagle, WIX 327.
The two Golden Shellback certificates follow the traditional Navy crossing-the-line ceremony format, addressed to all sailors, mermaids, sea serpents, whales, sharks, dolphins, and all other living creatures of the sea.
Fill lines for the recipient's name, date, latitude, longitude, and vessel are present throughout and remain blank.
Each is bordered with a large gold dragon, Neptune driving sea creatures, seahorses, and flame imagery.
The Imperium Neptuni Regis certificate is the classic Shellback document, formally acknowledging initiation into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep.
Signed in print by Davy Jones, His Majesty's Scribe, and Neptunus Rex, Ruler of the Raging Main.
Full-color design features Neptune, mermaids, sea horses, lobsters, sea turtles, fire creatures, and a large gold Neptune medallion at the bottom center.
The Order of the Square Rigger certificate is issued in the name of the USCG Barque Eagle, WIX 327, the United States Coast Guard's commissioned tall ship and officer training vessel.
Addressed to all Salts, Seadogs, Swabs, Survivors of the Horn, Albatross, and Followers of the Trade Winds.
