Original early-1900s panoramic photograph of a large horse-powered hay-baling operation near Yates Center, Kansas. The carefully arranged scene includes numerous workers with women grouped separately on the left side of photo, horses, loaded wagons, stacked hay bales, and a central hay press. One horse drawn wagon/buggy has a large sign: “AUGUST KRUEGER’S BAKERY Ice Cream Soda Cold Drinks”
Period Kansas business directories list August Krueger as operating a restaurant in Yates Center in both 1904 and 1908. The photographer’s mount is embossed “J. M. Fowler / Yates Center.” Fowler was an early Yates Center photographer.
