Overview

Up for sale is a beautiful piece of early 20th-century stationery history: an original circa 1920s Criterion U.S.A. lever-filler fountain pen. This antique instrument showcases classic Art Deco design accents, highlighted by a striking geometric square/checkerboard pattern running along the metal overlay barrel and cap.

Crucially for collectors and pen-smiths, this pen comes equipped with its premium, authentic **Warranted 14K Solid Gold Size #4 nib**. Offered in raw estate condition as a highly rewarding restoration project, this is a fantastic piece for vintage pen restoration hobbyists, calligraphy collectors, or ephemera enthusiasts.

📋 Details
  • Brand: Criterion (U.S.A.)

  • Pattern Style: Machine-engraved geometric square / check blocks

🔍 Condition & Restoration Notes (Please Read)
  • Overall State: Excellent structural condition for its century-old age, presenting exceptionally well overall.
  • Plating & Finish: The original gold-plated finish shows normal, routine signs of vintage storage wear, light pocket scuffs, and faint brassing/rubbing on high points consistent with age.
  • Ink Sac: Due to absolute antiquity, the original rubber internal ink sac has naturally dried out over the decades. It will require a standard replacement ink bladder/sac to take ink.
  • Mechanism & Spring: The side lever mechanism and internal pressure bar filler spring remain intact and maintain a very nice, clean mechanical bounce.
  • Nib & Section Alignment: There is a slight physical wobble where the upper plastic section barrel attaches back to the main metal body. This minor alignment quirk will easily resolve once the new ink sac is installed and secured with a dab of standard thread shellac. Faint dried ink residue is present around the gold nib.
  • Terms: Offered strictly AS-IS for parts, repair, or historical restoration projects. Please review all macro photographs closely.
