Antique Austrian Style Cold-Painted Bronze & Polished Horn Figural Sculpture – " For Sale

A truly exceptional and whimsical piece of turn-of-the-century decorative art, this Antique Cold-Painted Bronze and Horn Sculpture beautifully captures a quiet, narrative slice of life. The vignette depicts two finely detailed gentlemen deeply absorbed in a game of checkers or chess, seated across from one another on a rustic "log"—cleverly fashioned from a genuine, highly polished natural animal horn. This hybrid mixed-media composition is highly characteristic of the celebrated Viennese workshops of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which frequently paired lively miniature bronzes with organic materials like horn, agate, marble, and wood.

• Subject Matter: Two men in period attire intently playing a board game on a log bench.
• Materials: Genuine cast bronze detailing and an authentic, naturally striated polished steer/bovine horn.
• Technique: Authentic cold-painting—a labor-intensive historic process where multiple layers of oil or lacquer-based "dust" paints were meticulously hand-applied to the cold cast bronze surface without being fired, resulting in rich, matte lifelike textures.
• Style/Period: Vienna Secession / Jugendstil / Belle Époque (Circa 1900–1920).
• Visual Appeal: The deep, warm amber and cream tones of the natural horn create a striking contrast against the detailed polychrome paint of the figures and their miniature game board."Note to : This antique item features a natural horn base harvested from a common, non-endangered bovine (cow) species and fully complies with all wildlife and animal product policies. Domestic shipping only."
