Antique Golden West Brewing Co Oakland CA Beer Tray Pre-Prohibition c1911 13”.
Description
Original antique Golden West Brewing Co. lithographed advertising serving tray from Oakland, California. This impressive early breweriana piece depicts the Golden West brewery complex with streetcars, horse-drawn beer wagons, pedestrians, smokestacks and the brewery buildings.
The tray is marked “Golden West Brewing Co. – Oakland, Cal.” around the rim and American Art Works, Coshocton, O. along the lower portion of the lithograph. Comparable examples are identified as approximately 13-inch pre-Prohibition trays dating to the early 1910s.
This is an original period advertising tray, not a modern reproduction.
Condition: Authentic unrestored antique condition with substantial age-related surface wear, oxidation, spotting, scratches, finish loss and edge/rim wear. Despite the wear, the detailed brewery scene, streetcars, horse-drawn wagons, lettering and Golden West logo remain highly visible and give the tray excellent period character. Reverse shows additional scratches, finish wear and oxidation. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
Approximate size: 13” diameter.
A desirable piece of Oakland, California brewing history and early West Coast breweriana. Golden West operated under that name beginning around 1911, making this a particularly interesting surviving piece of pre-Prohibition California advertising.
