Antique Japanese Colonial Korea Cork Factory Commemorative Cigarette Case Map For Sale

DescriptionThis is a prewar Japanese commemorative cigarette case made for the completion of a new facility of the Korea Cork Works (朝鮮コルク工業所).What makes this piece especially interesting is its engraved design. One side shows a detailed map of the Korean Peninsula with transportation routes and place names, while the reverse is decorated with scenic views and architectural motifs associated with Korea. The inscription 新築落成記念 means “Commemorating the Completion of a New Building,” indicating that this was produced as a special corporate commemorative item rather than as an ordinary retail cigarette case. The historical background is also important. Korea was under Japanese colonial rule from 1910 to 1945. During this period, Japanese companies, railways, factories, and other industrial enterprises expanded throughout the peninsula. This cigarette case survives as a small physical record of that era of industrial and colonial history.Unlike a simple souvenir, it combines a named company, a specific commemorative purpose, and an engraved historical map. These details give the piece a much stronger connection to a particular time and place. The brass surface shows age, wear, scratches, and patina consistent with an old used object. Please review the photographs carefully for condition. An unusual piece for collectors of Japanese colonial history, Korean history, industrial history, railway-related memorabilia, tobacco collectibles, and prewar East Asian artifacts.Own a Piece of History.Shipping
