This model replica is painstakingly hand carved and then hand painted out of solid kiln dried mahogany wood(from renewable sources) by our highly experienced and talented craftsmen at our Filipino owned factory near the original Clark Air Base in Pampanga and takes about 9-10 weeks to manufacture. Production in our factory is supervised by our own resident British Pilot who ensures that exact blueprints are used for these meticulously detailed scale models custom manufactured and precisely engineered to your exact specifications and that will be cherished by all.

The model will be exactly as you see in the above image of the real aircraft and not the example we show below of a similar model we have made before. In terms of detailing (doors, windows, lights, control surface markings, antennas etc.) and livery or markings will follow the real aircraft image so we would kindly ask you to study the images very carefully (if you require higher resolution images please ask) to make sure that the model as you see is the 100% the same version you require or expect. We request your understanding on this matter due to the fact that these handmade models are traveling in many cases halfway around the world and any misunderstandings or mistaken expectations must be addressed at this as point of time as we cannot be held responsible for the costs involved in returning and replacing the model. The model will be shipped with the stand you see in the images although you may request if you like to change to either 1, 6 or 7 as in the attached image examples (just message us if a change is required).

It is our aim to continue to be a \"sustainable\" manufacturer avoiding the use of man-made materials wherever possible such as plastics, resins or metal in an attempt to reduce our Carbon Footprint and to protect our environment for generations to come. Our models are \"works of art\" and not to be confused with mass made plastic kits or diecast (die cast) look-alikes. We are proud Filipino\'s exporting to all parts of the globe and creating employment opportunities in an impoverished part of our country.

100% handmade models naturally come at a higher price than off the shelf, plastic or diecast (die cast) models but it may interest you to know that an average regular size fixed wing or helicopter model takes on average a total of 26 dedicated Man Hours of work to produce. During this time the model transitions through over 40 different manufacturing stages and processes. The 26 hours are not consecutive and require in-between many days (and in some cases weeks) of drying and curing time as they pass from one department to another making the overall production time from an outsiders point of view appear rather lengthy. Given these facts the time period we quote for production alone is very standard for our type of industry and among our close competitors. If you are interested in what goes into making these models, there follows a summary process schedule and video. Ilyushin Il-76 and Aeroflot: The Soviet Union’s Heavy Transport Icon

The Ilyushin Il-76, a four-engine turbofan transport aircraft, is one of the most recognizable designs in Soviet and Russian aviation. First flown in 1971, it was designed to serve as both a military and civilian freighter capable of carrying heavy loads into rugged, often unprepared airfields. Aeroflot, then the state airline of the Soviet Union, became the primary civilian operator of the Il-76, using it to expand Soviet logistics and demonstrate the USSR’s aviation prowess across the globe.

The Ilyushin Il-76: Design and Capabilities

The Il-76 was conceived to meet the Soviet Union’s need for a versatile heavy transport that could rival Western aircraft such as the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter. It quickly became the backbone of Soviet long-range cargo aviation.

Key specifications of the Il-76 (early versions):

  • Engines:Four Soloviev D-30KP turbofans

  • Payload capacity:Up to 40–50 tons

  • Range:Around 4,000–5,000 km fully loaded

  • Special Feature:Ability to take off and land on short, unpaved runways

The aircraft was designed with a high-mounted wing, rugged landing gear, and rear cargo doors with ramps, making it suitable for both civil and military roles.

Aeroflot’s Civilian Operations with the Il-76

As the Soviet Union’s sole airline during much of the Cold War, Aeroflot operated both passenger and cargo flights, with the Il-76 playing a central role in the latter.

  • Cargo Missions:Aeroflot used the Il-76 for transporting heavy machinery, industrial equipment, and humanitarian aid to remote areas within the Soviet Union and abroad.

  • International Reach:The aircraft supported Aeroflot’s operations across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, often flying missions in support of Soviet trade and diplomacy.

  • Special Operations:The Il-76 was also employed in firefighting, aerial spraying, and disaster relief missions, reflecting Aeroflot’s multifaceted responsibilities as more than just a passenger carrier.

Strategic Importance

The Il-76 gave Aeroflot capabilities that aligned with the Soviet Union’s political and economic strategies.

  • Domestic Role:It connected distant Soviet republics, delivering supplies to Siberia, Central Asia, and the Arctic, where traditional infrastructure was limited.

  • Diplomatic Tool:Through Aeroflot, the Il-76 became a visible symbol of Soviet presence abroad, often delivering aid or cargo to allied nations.

  • Civil-Military Overlap:Many Il-76 aircraft were dual-purposed, serving Aeroflot in peacetime but transferable to military roles if needed, demonstrating the close relationship between civilian and defense aviation in the USSR.

Passenger Variants

While primarily a cargo transport, certain Il-76s were configured for passenger transport under Aeroflot’s operation. These were used for moving large groups of people, such as workers to remote industrial projects or military personnel. Though not as comfortable as dedicated passenger aircraft, these versions highlighted the Il-76’s versatility.

Legacy with Aeroflot

The Il-76 remains one of the most produced and enduring Soviet aircraft, with over 900 built and many still in service worldwide. For Aeroflot, the aircraft represented not just a transport plane but a national asset, capable of linking the vast Soviet Union and projecting its influence globally.

Even after the breakup of the USSR, many Il-76s continued to serve with Russian cargo carriers and state agencies, building on the foundation laid by Aeroflot’s operations.

Conclusion

The Ilyushin Il-76 was more than just another aircraft in Aeroflot’s fleet—it was a symbol of Soviet industrial strength and logistical reach. Its ability to carry heavy payloads, operate from primitive runways, and serve in diverse roles made it indispensable. For Aeroflot, the Il-76 was a critical tool that extended the airline’s reach across the USSR and far beyond, leaving a lasting mark on both Soviet aviation history and global cargo operations.
