A deeply personal moment of love and separation comes to life in this beautifully illustrated 1983 porcelain collectible. The artwork captures a uniformed serviceman sharing a tender goodbye with a woman while another figure waits near the doorway. Warm interior tones, expressive faces, and carefully rendered details give the scene its emotional weight. Created as the third and final issue in The Curator Collection Ltd. Tribute Series, the plate honors the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families. Its glossy finish preserves the richness of the original painting, while the reverse identifies the collection, production year, and individual plate number 463. Measuring approximately 8.5 inches in diameter, it offers a touching addition to military memorabilia and decorative plate collections.
Apparently, military schedules have never been particularly considerate of romance. Our uniformed gentleman is attempting a proper farewell, his sweetheart seems determined to make every second count, and the fellow lurking near the door looks suspiciously like someone assigned to interrupt the entire proceedings. One can practically hear him clearing his throat for the third time. There\'s always somebody watching the clock when two people would rather pretend it doesn\'t exist. Rockwell had a remarkable talent for capturing these wonderfully inconvenient human moments, where duty collides with affection and nobody emerges entirely composed. The soldier may have his orders, but convincing the lady that it\'s time to leave appears to be an entirely different campaign.
Throughout history, the quietest goodbyes have often carried the heaviest emotions. Families have gathered beside railway platforms, farmhouse doors, and kitchen tables, holding close the people called away to serve. Rockwell understood that these private moments deserved remembrance just as much as grand military victories. His storytelling captures the uncertainty of departure without diminishing the courage behind it. The embrace speaks of devotion, the waiting figure reminds us that time continues moving, and the warm light beyond the doorway suggests an uncertain journey ahead. For collectors of Americana, military history, and sentimental artwork, this commemorative piece preserves a timeless reminder that every uniform represents someone loved, missed, and hopefully welcomed home again.
