Original French "Journée Serbe" (Serbian Day) Commemorative Medal – 1916
An original French "Journée Serbe" (Serbian Day) fundraising medal issued in 1916 during World War I to support humanitarian relief efforts for the Kingdom of Serbia.
Following the devastating Serbian campaign of 1915, France organized Journée Serbe (Serbian Relief Day) throughout the country to raise funds for Serbian civilians, refugees, and wounded soldiers. Commemorative medals such as this example were distributed to donors and remain important historical artifacts of Franco-Serbian cooperation during the Great War.
The obverse depicts an allegorical female figure with the inscription "JOURNÉE SERBE 1916", while the reverse commemorates the wartime relief campaign. This attractive medal is struck in bronze-toned metal with excellent detail and original period patina.
