Offered is a named WWII U.S. Marine Corps uniform named to PFC Rufus Doughtie Jr., USMC, serial no. 829949. The group consists of a wool service coat, matching trousers, and overseas cap. The coat retains its period USMC collar insignia, buttons, and chevrons.
The cap is named “R. Doughtie,” and the accompanying service-record copies identify Rufus Doughtie Jr. by name and serial number. The records identify him with Company L, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, and document that he was killed in action on Peleliu Island, Palau, on September 15, 1944. The photographed records include his service-record/portrait page, KIA correspondence, unit identification, personal-effects inventory, and interment documentation.
Condition is original, untouched, and suited for historical display, but it has signs of age and storage wear. The coat has scattered moth/insect holes, including holes to the lower body/skirt, a large hole in the armpit, pocket area, and cuffs; see the photographs. The cap is in good condition. There is also general wear, lint, and age-related storage wear throughout. The trousers show normal wear with a handful of scattered moth holes.
Also included is the complete bound notebook of archival research and service-record copies shown in the photographs. It covers Doughtie’s enlistment and identification information, period portrait, unit assignment, wartime service paperwork, KIA correspondence concerning Peleliu, personal-effects inventory, burial/interment records, and postwar correspondence regarding his remains.
Please review every photo closely. Photos are part of the description and show the exact item, name markings, condition, and documented history. Sold as found, as a historic collector/display piece and not as wearable clothing.
Uniform will be shipped insured with signature confirmation via UPS Ground.
