RARE Vintage USS Whipple DE-1062 PLANK OWNER, Table Desk Lighter US Navy For Sale

This is a really rare piece! It’s a genuine original USS Whipple “plank owner” Desk/table lighter. For those who don’t know, a plank owner was a member of first crew of a newly commissioned ship. No crew member who was assigned later was a plank owner. This being a large fancy table lighter, it likely belonged to an officer. The only markings on the lighter are a few hallmarks inside the lid and the Zippo markings on the side of the lighter insert itself. The USS Whipple was commissioned in 1970, so 56 years ago this coming August. There couldn’t have been but a handful of these handed out and likely only to officers. Own a genuine piece of a Naval history! You may never see another one. The lighter works perfectly and is in good lightly used shape showing just normal finish wear from 50+ years of handling. The enlisted color in the text is all present and the colors are still bright. The lid snaps back tightly just like it should. It’s in great shape for its age. We will proudly only sell this item to those in the USA and shipping for this item to the contiguous US will be $10. We only accept payment from US based sources and accounts.
