Up for sale is a very rare piece — a NASA “Red Number” chromogenic color photograph of Space Shuttle Columbia (OV-102), featuring signatures of the two-man crew of this shuttles historic maiden flight — STS-1 Commander John Young, and Pilot Robert Crippin.
Color photograph depicts Columbia in its complete launch configuration with external tank and solid rocket boosters
The image is affixed to a substantial textured cream/off-white presentation mount, with both astronauts signing prominently in ink directly beneath the photograph.
Will be equipped with COA from the personal estate of Daniel Nebrig — the former associative director of NASA during the Apollo Missions.
On April 12, 1981, Young and Crippen launched aboard Columbia from Kennedy Space Center on STS-1.
The historic mission demonstrated that NASA’s revolutionary reusable spacecraft could successfully launch into orbit, operate in space, reenter Earth’s atmosphere, and make an unpowered runway landing.
After approximately 54 hours and 36 Earth orbits, Columbia landed at Edwards Air Force Base on April 14.
Photo itself measures 10 by 8 inches, NASA number identification “S80-36190” on the top back. Full piece measures 14 by 16 inches.
Condition is overall good. Natural patina on par with age. Foxing in the corners present. Small black mark on left side of photo as pictured. Light scratch on top right of photo pictured.

This photo comes from This item comes from the estate of the Associative director at NASA Dan Nebrig, who began as an aeronautical engineer on the Apollo program in 1963, advancing to a Project Officer for the Apollo and Skylab programs.
Nebrig advanced to a Manager of the Orbiter Project Control Office, and continued as a Manager of the Space Shuttle Program Control Office, and to Deputy Director of Administration in 1984.
