Adam Kuhn (1741-1817), sailed for Europe in 1761 to take a course at the University of Upsala in Sweden, where he arrived in January 1762. He studied medicine and botany under Carl Linnaeus until late summer 1764. He then proceeded to Edinburgh, taking his degree of Doctor of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1767. Dr. Kuhn later served as President of the Philadelphia College of Physicians from 1808 until his death in 1817. Tioga County records show a mortgage was granted to Dr. Adam Kuhn of Philadelphia for land at the South branch of Tioga River, called Charlton, which was granted to Charles Marshall February 18, 1798.
