Vintage 1974 McCormick Platte Valley Straight Corn Whiskey Stoneware Jug – 1/2 Pint – Empty
Up for sale is a classic 1974 McCormick Distilling Co. Platte Valley Straight Corn Whiskey ceramic stoneware jug. This is the popular small half-pint size that collectors love for its rustic, old-timey look and authentic advertising design.
Key Features & Markings:
• Front label reads: “Aged in the Hills / Platte Valley / Since 1858 / 90 Proof / 1/2 Pint / 6 Years Old / Straight Corn Whiskey / Distilled and Bottled by McCormick Distilling Co. / Weston, Missouri”
• Embossed on the shoulder: “McCORMICK” (partially visible beneath remnants of the old paper tax strip)
• Original red wax seal/cap still present with some natural cracking and wear from age
• Bottom clearly marked: 219-1974 / LIQUOR BOTTLE / 11-D16 — the standard mold and distiller codes for these 1974 jugs
This two-tone stoneware jug features a cream-colored body with a rich brown glazed neck and shoulder, giving it that classic “aged in the hills” country whiskey appearance. It originally held real 90-proof, 6-year-old straight corn whiskey from McCormick Distilling in Weston, Missouri.
Condition:
• Empty (no whiskey inside)
• Good vintage condition with honest age-related wear: some cracking and peeling on the red wax/cap, torn remnants of the old federal tax stamp/paper strip on the neck, and light surface patina/scratches consistent with its 50+ years
• No chips, cracks, or major damage to the ceramic body
