Vintage 1978 Signed Hand-Carved 4lb Monkey Pod Wood Kitty Cat Statue – Made in 1978
Add a substantial touch of bold, retro bohemian warmth to your mantle, shelf, or desk display with this exceptional vintage hand-carved Siamese cat sculpture. Hand-chiseled from a single, incredibly heavy block of dense exotic tropical monkey pod hardwood, this chunky 4.2 lb feline brings a lovely primitive folk-art presence to any space. The sculpture depicts a majestic kitty cat ( maybe Siamese) in a peaceful crouching \"loaf\" position, complete with stylized carved almond eyes, pricked alert ears, and fine vertical line carvings defining the front paws. Showcasing traditional primitive folk-art construction, the lower front paw section was carved as a separate accent piece and seamlessly joined to the main body block using original, hand-set underlying metal mounting pins. The wood exhibits a gorgeous, deeply reflective honey-brown satin luster, showcasing the vibrant horizontal grain patterns typical of old-growth tropical timbers. The underside base tier features a hand-carved artisan signature and date stamp reading\"BM 78\". Free of any modern breaks, this highly tactile 1970s statue is the perfect statement piece for cat lovers and vintage woodcraft collectors alike.🏭 Manufacturing History & Company Background
The 1970s Exotic Woodwork Boom: During the late mid-century era, high-end tourist destinations across the Caribbean islands, Hawaii, and the Philippines supported thriving guilds of master woodcarvers. Working primarily with heavy monkey pod and acacia wood, these local artisans specialized in creating smooth, stylized animal sculptures designed to be taken home as premium estate mementos by global travelers.Primitive Multi-Block Carving: The use of separate nailed-on block foundations for intricate details like lower limbs or paws is a highly respected technique in rural folk-art carving. Rather than risking grain splits on a single large log section, the master carver hand-joined these tailored paw elements with small structural pins to ensure the statue would remain strong, level, and durable for decades to come.📏 Exact Measurements & Weights

About Old FloridaVintage
Welcome to my store! I moved down to sunny Florida 6 years ago from up north. Most of the wonderful treasures I list here were cherished pieces kept in my previous northern home. My home here in Florida is quite a bit smaller and has a completely different aesthetic, so I am lovingly sending these items off to find a wonderful new home where they can be appreciated and enjoyed all over again! I also love to find things at estate sales, yard sales and moving sales which we have an abundance of here in SW Florida. I love finding them new homes and saving things from the landfill. Most of my shipping supplies I source from local businesses or my neighborhood and construction sites. I try to reuse and recycle most of my packing supplies too.🚛 Shipping & Handling Policy
