Up for sale is a fantastic, complete vintage surveyor’s transit level manufactured by the David White Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is a Model 3000 (\"White\'s Improved\") bearing serial number 84270. This complete field set includes the heavy-duty transit level, original fitted wooden transport chest, solid brass plumb bob on string, and the original multi-page \"Operation and Adjustment Instructions\" booklet. A superb functional display piece for surveying collectors, engineers, architects, or industrial/steampunk decor. Condition Notes: The instrument body is remarkably clean with minimal paint wear or chipping to the textured gray enamel. Brass dials, leveling thumbscrews, vernier arc, and vertical/horizontal movements turn and adjust smoothly. Spirit levels are intact. The wooden case shows honest exterior wear, scratches, weathered finish, and vintage patina consistent with field use, but retains strong joints and latches securely. The original paper manual shows significant age wear, tears, creasing, and handling stains from past field use, but is present and authentic. Total unpackaged weight of the instrument and case is approximately 18 lbs.
