Vintage Soviet Armenian Tigran the Great Battle Scene – Elephants, Warriors & River
Striking vintage Armenian historical wall plaque depicting Tigran the Great, featuring a dramatic ancient battle scene with war elephants, mounted cavalry, armed warriors, military equipment and a river crossing.
The highly detailed composition shows Tigran the Great and his forces in an ancient Armenian military setting, with elephants and soldiers advancing alongside a winding blue river against a dramatic mountainous landscape. The artwork is constructed from dimensional colored metal/enamel elements applied over a richly textured metal ground, creating an exceptionally detailed relief effect.
A particularly interesting feature is the circular Armenian inscription/emblem at the lower right, which reads “ՏԻԳՐԱՆ ՄԵԾ” (Tigran the Great).
ORIGINAL VINTAGE PRODUCTION LABEL
The reverse retains its original vintage paper production label identifying the piece with the Izokombinat of the Art Fund of the Armenian SSR in Yerevan, providing important provenance for this Soviet-era Armenian decorative artwork.
The original hanging wire is also intact.

CONDITION
Very good overall vintage condition.
The decorative metal/enamel artwork itself presents beautifully, with the original dimensional applied elements, detailed surface work and attractive age-related patina.
There is some natural age-related oxidation/verdigris, including areas of turquoise/green coloration around portions of the metal elements. These variations contribute to the character of the vintage piece.
Please note: the lower-right corner of the outer frame has separated at the join and will need to be repaired/re-secured. This appears to be a condition issue with the frame rather than the central artwork itself. Please see the photographs carefully.
The original production label and hanging wire remain on the reverse.
I have not cleaned, polished, repainted or refinished the piece, preserving its original vintage appearance and patina.
HISTORICAL NOTE
The plaque is identified by the Armenian inscription as Tigran the Great (Tigran II), the celebrated Armenian king of the 1st century BC.
While the scene clearly depicts an ancient military/battle setting involving Tigran the Great, I have not identified a specific battle and therefore am not making a more specific historical attribution.
This is vintage Soviet-era Armenian decorative artwork, not an ancient artifact or original artwork from the time of Tigran the Great.
The exact piece shown in these photographs is the piece the buyer will receive.
