Offered is an authentic vintage Soviet-era textile pennant measuring approximately 14 inches wide × 28.5 inches long.
This is an unusually attractive double-sided Soviet industrial/labor pennant, with completely different printed designs on the two sides. It features a deep red glossy textile, gold/yellow printing and extensive gold-colored fringe around three sides.
SIDE ONE:
“ЗА ВЫСОКУЮ КУЛЬТУРУ ПРОИЗВОДСТВА”
Translation: “FOR HIGH STANDARDS OF PRODUCTION.”
The design incorporates Soviet industrial and labor symbolism including a five-pointed star, grain/wheat, industrial gear and hammer-and-sickle imagery.
SIDE TWO:
“СЛАВА ТРУДУ!”
Translation: “GLORY TO LABOR!”
The larger inscription reads:
“МЫ ПРИДЕМ К ПОБЕДЕ КОММУНИСТИЧЕСКОГО ТРУДА.”
Translation: “WE SHALL ACHIEVE THE VICTORY OF COMMUNIST LABOR.”
The inscription is attributed to V. I. Lenin.
The pennant is representative of the Soviet system of socialist competition and communist labor, in which factories, production teams and workers competed for recognition based upon production, quality, efficiency and other workplace achievements. Similar Soviet textile pennants are preserved in Russian museum collections. Genuine examples are documented as being produced from silk/satin-type textiles with printed or painted decoration and fringe.
DIMENSIONS: Approximately 14\" wide × 28.5\" long.
MATERIAL: Glossy woven/satin-like textile. I have not tested the fiber content and therefore am not representing it as silk.
AGE: Soviet era, believed to date from approximately the 1970s–1980s. Exact date and place of manufacture are unknown.
CONDITION: Very good vintage condition overall. The textile has age-related wrinkles and creasing from storage, and the fringe is somewhat uneven/tangled in places. The red fabric and gold/yellow printed decoration remain strong and attractive. Please examine all photographs carefully for the complete condition.
I purchased this pennant from a collector many years ago. It has been stored as a collectible and is being offered as a vintage Soviet historical/collectible textile.
A particularly interesting feature is that the two sides carry completely different designs and inscriptions. This is a substantial display-size pennant rather than a small souvenir example.
