This is an original 10" x 8" photograph of the Sept., 1928 grand opening night of the historic Paramount Theater in downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Paramount Theater was originally called Capitol Theater (as seen here) but in less than a year was sold to Paramount Famous-Lasky Corp. and renamed Paramount Theater, Mar. 1929 and still is known today as such.
The photo shows several entertaining things about the event - several 1920s vehicles, a full image of the new building (built just for the theater) and the large crowd lined up to see Richard Dix in "Warming Up" (Paramount's first movie with sound). Plus, you'll notice some neat motion blur so we can get a sense of this bustling scene.
Taken by John William Baldridge who was a locally well-known commercial photographer during this period (his stamp is on the reverse side). This photo likely appeared in a local newspaper but didn't find any evidence that this photo was mass produced. So, you are getting a scarce photo.
Size is approximately 10" x 8" - very clear photo with a lot noticeable details
Great condition - there is a heavy, but small, crease on the upper right corner (would easily be hidden if framed). A few surface indents but these are mostly unnoticeable. Otherwise, this is quite a well-preserved vintage photo. Shipping and the blah, blah, blah...
