Estimated age approximately 50 years. Here’s why:
This mug was made between 1973 and the late 1970s / early 1980s (making it roughly 45 to 50+ years old).
Here is a breakdown of how the date is determined:
1. The Decommissioning Date (Earliest Possible Date: Late 1973)
The front decal explicitly lists the ship\'s active service years: 1945 – 1973.
The USS Henry W. Tucker (DD-875) was decommissioned and struck from the U.S. Navy Register on December 3, 1973 (after which it was transferred to the Brazilian Navy).
Commemorative pieces that feature closed career dates (1945 – 1973) were commissioned right at or shortly after decommissioning as commemorative keepsakes for former crew members, veterans, and reunion associations.
2. Manufacturer History & Maker\'s Mark
The bottom of the stein is stamped \"Cann-Art Enterprises, 1615 Hoover Ave., National City, CA 92050\".
Cann-Art Enterprises was a well-known local military specialty vendor operating right next to Naval Station San Diego (32nd Street) during the Vietnam and Cold War eras. They specialized in custom crest ceramic mugs, steins, plaques, and heraldic items for US Navy ships, squadrons, and veteran reunions.
The use of the 5-digit ZIP code (92050) without a ZIP+4 extension, along with the specific Hoover Ave. manufacturing address stamp, fits mid-to-late 1970s production.
Summary
Manufactured: Circa 1973 – 1979
