1771 Connecticut Two Shillings & Sixpence—Timothy Green—Colonial Currency:
$195.00

Connecticut colonial bill of credit dated October 10, 1771, denominated two shillings and sixpence in lawful money. Printed in New London by Timothy Green, whose name and the year appear on the reverse.

The face features Connecticut’s three-vine seal, ornamental borders, and manuscript committee signatures, including a clearly legible Elisha Williams signature. Its printed obligation promises repayment by October 10, 1773. The reverse preserves an additional red manuscript registration endorsement.

Issued five years before American independence, this note offers a tangible connection to the financial administration and printing traditions of colonial Connecticut.

Friedberg CT-164. Cut canceled, with a diagonal redemption incision across the central design. Circulated, with folds, toning, faded portions of the manuscript ink, edge nicks and splits, and small losses. The date, denomination, printer’s imprint, and principal signature remain readable. Ungraded; offered as pictured.
