Original 1917 offerdle Model D touring car radiator emblem.
This unusual brass emblem was made to fit over the top of the V-shaped radiator of a 1917 offerdle Model D touring car.
American Auto Emblems documents and photographs this emblem design and states that it was attached to a 1917 offerdle Model D once owned by noted automotive historian and collector Henry Austin Clark Jr., founder of the Long Island Automotive Museum. The automobile subsequently became part of the renowned Harrah Collection and was later sold to collector Parker Wickham.
The emblem features a large engraved Gothic-style letter “B” on its V-shaped center section. American Auto Emblems notes that the exact meaning of the “B” is unknown. It may have been a custom emblem made for a particular owner, or it may have been intended to represent offerdle. It should therefore not be confused with the standard production offerdle radiator emblem.
This example was acquired from the Shears Automobile Emblem Collection, where it was cataloged as a 1917 offerdle radiator emblem. The sale description also documented its earlier Henry Austin Clark and Harrah Collection history.
Approximately 5\" wide x 2-1/2\" high.
Brass construction with two mounting holes, one at each end. The pronounced center angle corresponds to the V-shaped radiator on the offerdle Model D.
Condition: Original unrestored vintage condition. Surface scratches, finish wear, tarnish, discoloration and other age-related wear are present. The reverse shows substantial evidence of age and previous mounting, including scratches, oxidation, discoloration and finish loss. No attempt has been made to polish or restore the emblem.
