1918 Norway Queen Maud King Olav V Princess Christian Signed Royal Document Page:
$775.00

For your consideration is an original 19181919 British royal and aristocratic visitors-register leaf, measuring approximately 8.0 by 10.0 inches, bearing the manuscript signatures of Princess Helena, Princess Christian (18461923), her daughter Princess Marie Louise (18721956), Queen Maud of Norway (18691938), and Crown Prince Olav of Norway (19031991), later King Olav V, together with several members of their immediate court and social circles. The entries are arranged beneath printed columns for date, name, and address and are executed in period fountain pen ink on substantial laid paper. The royal entries span 27 August 1918 to 26 January 1919, placing the sheet in the immediate aftermath of the First World War and preserving a particularly intimate record of interconnected British and Norwegian royal family activity.

The 27 August 1918 group is headed by Princess Helena, Princess Christian, third daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, followed by Princess Marie Louise, her daughter and a granddaughter of Queen Victoria. Signing alongside them is Ida Agnes Eleanor Edmonstone, Lady Edmonstone, who served as Woman of the Bedchamber to Princess Christian and was therefore a member of Helenas close household circle. A later entry by the Hon. Mary Georgina Egerton, ne Ormsby-Gore (18511937) adds another figure from the royal court world; she was closely connected with the Connaught household and belonged to the broader network of aristocratic women who served within the British royal establishment.

The most prominent entries on the reverse are dated 26 January 1919 and are signed simply Maud and Olav. These are Queen Maud of Norway, youngest daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra and sister of King George V, and her fifteen-year-old son Crown Prince Olav, who would succeed as King Olav V of Norway in 1957. Their presence is especially significant because Maud was Princess Helenas niece, making this leaf not merely a collection of notable autographs but a record of an extended royal family network linking the British and Norwegian monarchies. Additional entries include W. M. Robertson junr. and Mildred Robertson of York House, St Jamess Palace, as well as Louie Campbell, Victoria Johnson, and Alice Hall, further reflecting the courtly and social milieu in which the register was kept.

The leaf remains in attractive original condition, with minor edge losses, light handling wear, and age-consistent toning, while the principal signatures remain bold and readily legible. Its significance lies in the unusually strong concentration of Queen Victorias descendants and their household associates on a single surviving register page, combining Princess Christian and Princess Marie Louise with Queen Maud and the future King Olav V. As such, it offers a compact but highly evocative document of dynastic continuity, royal household life, and Anglo-Norwegian family relations at the close of the First World War.
