1949 ICE PARADE, BLACKPOOL – PRINCIPAL DUO BISSELL & FARLEY SIGNED CAST SHEET Dedicated to fellow performers Mattie & Zola – includes both real and stage names
A scarce and highly desirable autograph sheet from the Ice Parade of 1949, Leonard Thompson’s long‑running theatrical ice revue at the Ice Drome, Pleasure Beach, Blackpool. The production was one of the most ambitious mid‑century ice spectaculars, later evolving into today’s famous Hot Ice Show.
This sheet is signed by the revue’s internationally known principal adagio skating duo Bissell & Farley. Importantly, the inscription includes both their real forenames (“Jerry & Howard”) and their professional stage billing (“Bissell & Farley”), a practice often used backstage when signing for fellow cast members.
The dedication is addressed to Mattie & Zola, ensemble performers who appear in the official cast list published in The Stage, 16 June 1949. The article confirms their appearance alongside the Carraways, Tony Crook, Willie Jack, Collin Beatty, Harry Taylor, the Flying Comets, and the principal duo Bissell & Farley.
The inscription reads:
“To two grand artists ‘Mattie & Zola’.Our best and most sincere wishes to you.Let’s hope we will work together again.Your two American friendsJerry & Howard, Bissell & FarleyIce ParadeBlackpool’49.”
This is therefore an internal Ice Parade cast autograph, written by the principal duo to their colleagues during the 1949 season. Items showing both real and stage names of headline performers are notably scarce.
A strong piece of Blackpool ice‑revue history, directly tied to the documented cast of the 1949 Ice Parade and featuring signatures of its marquee American principals.

Winifred Alice Myers (1909 - 1985) served as ABA (Antiquarian Booksellers Assoc) president, 1950-1952. See the ABA website for an extended article on Myers. Myers left her business, in 1985, to Ruth Shepherd, who traded from home until 2004.
