Original 1953–54 panoramic photograph of the Honey Bears of Thomas Edison High School in San Antonio, Texas. This wonderfully lively group portrait shows approximately 100 uniformed students, sponsors and mascots posed outside the school. Several Honey Bears strike playful poses across the front, accompanied by young mascots “Tommy” and “Yvonne” with their megaphones.
The photograph is credited in the image to E. L. Goldbeck of San Antonio, son of renowned panoramic photographer E. O. Goldbeck and founder of the Goldbeck Company, which specialized in large school-group photographs.
The handwritten-style caption reads:
“The Honey Bears of Edison High School — San Antonio, Texas — 1953–54
Mrs. Julia Cake, Sponsor — Miss Helen Wyatt, Co-Sponsor”
Measures approximately 24” x 10”.
Condition: Original vintage photograph with age-related wear. There is a substantial horizontal tear extending inward from the left edge, along with several shorter edge tears, creasing, waviness, small stains and general surface wear. The photograph remains highly displayable, with strong image detail and a clearly legible caption and photographer’s credit. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
An appealing piece of San Antonio school history, Texas ephemera and mid-century cheer/drill-team memorabilia—and an especially fun example of E. L. Goldbeck’s panoramic group photography.
