A Revolutionary War Era Friction Folding Knife. Clear Maker's Mark; Good Patina.: $85.00
For sale is a very good example of a Revolutionary War era friction folder pocket knife; it is not a spring knife. These were made in Europe and were imported into the colonies in large numbers; often referred to as "penny knives" because they cost one penny apiece. This knife has a very attractive turned wood handle. The blade has a clear maker's mark; there is an old museum collection number written on one side of the blade. You can see and feel the unevenness on the hand forged blade's spine. The knife is 6 1/4" long open and 3 1/2" closed. The knife has a good untouched old patina. Examples of penny knives can be seen in Neumann's "Rev War Collectors Encyclopedia" and "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution".
