ANTIQUE WESTERN APACHE NATIVE AMERICAN COILED BASKET -DEVILS CLAW C. 1900-1925:
$379.00

Offered for sale is an attractive antique Native American coiled basket bowl, attributed to the Western Apache of Arizona, dating approximately to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1925.
The basket measures approximately 6 inches in diameter by 2 inches tall.
This shallow bowl-form basket displays traditional hand-coiled construction using contrasting natural golden/tan and dark brown-to-black plant fibers. The dark material is believed to be devil’s claw (Martynia), traditionally used as a contrasting decorative material in historic Southwestern Native American basketry.
The basket has a particularly striking radiating geometric design. A predominantly dark circular center expands outward into a series of bold, angular geometric elements executed in contrasting light and dark fibers. The decoration is integral to the basket\'s construction rather than painted or applied.
The basket is finished with an attractive light-colored wrapped final coil/rim, which provides a strong border around the geometric Attribution: Western Apache, Arizona
