Wonderful early California advertising tin for Bishop’s Petite Wafers, manufactured/distributed by Bishop’s Company, Los Angeles and San Diego, California. The original graphics appear on the front, back, sides and lid, with “Net Contents 42 Ozs.” printed on the advertising panels.
Approximately 9" wide × 8 1/4" deep × 7" tall.
This is a substantial early food advertising tin with excellent aged character. Surface shows considerable age-related wear including oxidation/rust, scratches, discoloration, fading and loss to the original lithographed/painted finish. The turquoise/green and brown aged surface gives the tin a particularly attractive primitive appearance. Hinged lid remains present. Please examine photographs closely as they are an important part of the condition description.
Research confirms Bishop’s Petite Wafers were being sold in California by at least the mid-1920s and were still documented in the early 1930s. Based on comparable Bishop & Company advertising material, this tin appears consistent with the 1910s–1920s period.
A scarce piece of early Southern California food, bakery and advertising history with strong display appeal.
