antique Russian Eastern Orthodox icon of the "Unexpected Joy" (Нечаянная Радость)

The selected region shows a Church Slavonic inscription on an Orthodox icon that reads «Образъ нечаянныя радости», meaning "The Image of Unexpected Joy".

The narrative behind the icon comes from the 17th-century book Fleece, the Dew-Drenched (Руно Орошенное) by St. Dimitry of Rostov.

The icon is painted on a heavy wooden panel (доска). It shows authentic signs of age, including craquelure (the fine web of cracks in the paint), surface dirt, and wear/chipping around the edges of the border, which is typical for surviving household icons from that era
