Exquisite antique art nouveau gold gilt jewelry casket by Brainard & Wilson (Design No. 140) - Circa 1900-1915.
Add genuine Edwardian elegance to your home with this magnificent antique Art Nouveau jewelry casket. Expertly crafted in the early 20th century by the renowned Brainard & Wilson Co. of Danbury, Connecticut, this piece beautifully exemplifies the organic, fluid luxury of the Art Nouveau movement.
Design and Craftsmanship: The exterior features an ornate relief of blooming flowers and cascading vines across the domed lid and bombe-style walls. The casket rests elegantly on four fluid cabriole legs. Flipping the box over, you find the signature Brainard & Wilson hallmark details: a smooth oval crisply stamped with the design catalog number \"140\", set against an incredibly intricate, textured micro-flower pattern.
Original Historic Interior: Rarely seen in caskets of this age, this piece still features its original pale pink satin tufted fabric lining on both the inner lid and bottom cushion. The padding was originally designed to protect fine rings, pocket watches, and brooches from scratching against the cast metal walls.
Condition:
Exterior: Excellent antique condition. The gold gilt finish on the bottom is phenomenally preserved, showing the pristine factory luster. The top and sides show a gorgeous, authentic age-appropriate patina that highlights the details of the raised floral relief.
Interior: The 115+ year-old pink lining has a small tear in the base piece. It shows expected historic dust, patina, and gentle fading from a century of love, adding to its charm. The hidden gild rim under the lid remains exceptionally bright.
