Up for sale is an authentic, exceptionally rare Early American Federal Period US Volunteer Militia Shako Hat Plate, dating to circa 1815–1825. This historic die-struck brass helmet insignia features a beautifully detailed, prominent Federal-style American eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle rests upon a classic broad shield design adorned with vertical stars and stripes, flanked by a panoply of military drums, flags, and weapons.
DESIGN & DIMENSIONS:-Material: Stamped/Die-Struck Brass- Shape: Classic Shield Form with a top-center mounting hole- Motif: Early Republic Federal Eagle & Striped Shield PatrisCONDITION REPORT:This antique plate features an incredible, untouched dark mustard-brass patina with gorgeous areas of authentic verdigris and oxidation showing its immense age. The stamped details on the front remain remarkably crisp and legible. The edges remain intact with expected honest wear for a 200-year-old military artifact.
