Probably because of material shortage andleft over blank documents.

It would have been valid until the year 2000if the DDR would not have become a partof the Federal Republic of Germany a few months later.
Very rare piece of history.Look at the details of the front page and its small"DDR" initials imprinted.
The passport was issued to a male from Templin, situated just North of Berlin.Templin is also the place former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was raised.
