Godin Chaufette (little stove) Advertising Inkwell France ca1900:
$150.00

This inkwell is a ca 1900 advertising piece made by the French Godin Chauffage co. It models the popular cast iron stoves that the Godin company produced. The company was founded by Jean Baptiste Andre Godin in France around 1840. This inkwell is affectionately known as \"Chaufette\" or little stove. It stands 4 1/2 inches high on its footed iron legs and is 4 3/4 wide by 3 inches deep. The gold colored lid/hinge works perfectly and the glass insert fits nicely. It is stamped with a number 15 on the bottom and the inside of the lid. The right side door adornment is for aesthetic purposes only and does not open. The decorative lattice work on the inkwell is superb and adds to the overall authenticity and excellent condition of this piece. I originally acquired this inkwell from a knowledgable and highy respected collector of unique inkwells, J. Weidabach. You will not see this inkwell often offered for sale. I did find one antique dealer in France selling a similar one for about $1200 US. Of course, my listing price is considerably lower. See my response and offer with confidence. I always ship safely and securely.
