John D. Free – “Gentle Ambush” – Limited Edition Bronze Sculpture 12/30 – 1986
Outstanding original limited-edition Western bronze sculpture by noted American Western artist John D. Free (1929–2014).
Titled “Gentle Ambush,” the sculpture depicts a young woman reclining across the back of a mare with a foal standing alongside. The large, detailed composition features a traditional brown patina and is mounted on a custom shaped wood base with brass title plaque.
The bronze is clearly inscribed:

Very good overall vintage condition. The bronze displays well with an attractive original-looking patina. No breaks or repairs have been observed. The wood base has minor age-related surface wear and a few small marks consistent with display and handling. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.
This is an exceptionally substantial bronze, weighing nearly 40 pounds, with a relatively small 30-piece edition.
Due to the sculpture\'s weight and projecting elements, it will be carefully and securely packed for shipment.
