VICTORIAN ALLEGORICAL EPHEMERA MOTHER, CHILD, ANGEL & MILITARY SOLDIER 8"x6.5" For Sale

EMBOSSED BORDER WITH GOLD/GILT ACCENTSVictorian ephemera featuring a mother, child, angel, and military soldier represents a deeply sentimental and prominent genre of late 19th and early 20th-century print media. These allegorical motifs were highly common during wartime periods (such as the Boer War or the lead-up to WWI) and were widely circulated as embossed scraps, postcards, and mourning cards.* * *Common Themes & Symbolic Meaning

• The Guardian Angel: Typically depicted hovering protectively over either the family at home or the soldier on the battlefield. This symbolized divine protection, comfort, and the bridge between the home front and the front line.
• The Mother and Child: Represented the domestic ideal, innocence, and the "home fire" that the soldier was fighting to protect.
• The Soldier: Embodied duty, patriotism, and the ultimate sacrifice, frequently shown in uniform either dreaming of his family or being watched over by a heavenly entity.
