Michael Kanteena Laguna Pueblo Bird Effigy Canteen Pottery Signed 5”
Vintage Michael Kanteena Laguna Pueblo bird effigy pottery vessel/canteen, featuring a sculptural bird form with a large loop handle and hand-painted black geometric designs over a natural cream-colored clay body.
The piece is signed “Kanteena Laguna NM” on the underside. Michael Kanteena is a noted Laguna Pueblo potter known for animal and effigy vessels influenced by ancestral Pueblo pottery traditions.
This piece has a deliberately aged, archaeological-style appearance with extensive surface scratching, rubbing and distressed areas throughout the painted decoration. The surface remains smooth to the touch, and gentle cleaning with water and a microfiber cloth did not alter or remove these markings. Kanteena is known to incorporate scratched and aged-looking surface treatments into some of his pottery. Please review all photos closely, as they are part of the condition description.
No obvious cracks, repairs or significant chips observed.
