Rarely seen on the secondary market.Priced at a discount to sell fast. Only one available, so act now!The Effect: What The Audience Experiences
Before the show begins, a prediction package is handed to a member of the audience for safe keeping. Later, a spectator is invited onto the stage to help with the demonstration.
The helper takes the special jumbo deck, shuffles it, and freely removes five cards face down. The performer never has to touch or go near the jumbo deck, ever.
The spectator places these five cards in a row on the wooden easel resting on a nearby table. (See images) You step forward, chalk a single dot in the middle of the easel just above the row of cards, and hand the chalk to the helper. "Draw an line from the dot to ANY of the five cards." The choice is genuinely theirs - a free choice. The other four cards are immediately turned face out and shown to be all completely different.
You then ask for the prediction package to be brought forward. You remove the "prediction deck" that was placed there long before you show had ever started. You openly spread the cards to reveal that there is just one card face up in the entire deck—for example, the Queen of Hearts."For the first time, hold up the chosen jumbo card on the easel, and turn it around to everyone can see it!"It is a perfect match.
In the audience’s eyes the selection was free, the prediction was sealed and out of the performer’s hands the entire time, and the climax is impossible.
In 1998 Ted Lesley’s Wonder Workshop Berlin released one of the scarcest professional mentalism outfits of the decade: Dr. Stanley Jaks’ “Prediction Impossible.” Strictly limited to 100 sets worldwide and never reprinted, it was sold only through Lesley’s own shop in Berlin, Germany. The original listing stated plainly that magicians had been asking for the piece, that it had never before been on the market, and that Jaks himself used it as a show finale.
What you receive is the complete professional package: the two-fold handmade wooden chalkboard easel made by a master craftsman, chalk, the special Jumbo cards, and the sealed prediction deck (see the photos).
Dr. Stanley Jaks (1903–1960) was one of the most subtle mentalists of the mid-century, a contributor to Annemann’s Jinx, a command performer for President Truman, and the originator of classic prediction pieces that still influence working professionals. Ted Lesley, the man who brought this set to the market, was Germany’s foremost professional mentalist—Dunninger Award winner, author of the modern classic Paramiracles, and the operator of Wonder Workshop Berlin. The joint credit on the original packaging is not marketing; it reflects the meeting of Jaks’ diabolically clever idea with Lesley’s practical stagecraft and the limited-edition production standards of his Berlin workshop.
Because only 100 sets were ever made, complete examples with the original easel, Jumbo cards, and sealed prediction deck almost never appear. This is one of them—unused, as issued, and ready for a performer who wants a genuine 1990s European stage finale that has remained essentially unknown outside the small circle of magicians who bought directly from Ted Lesley.
