Pioneer Bridge Pacific Highway California 1932 RPPC Real Photo Vintage Postcard
Soaring 252 feet above the canyon floor, the steel cantilever trusses of the Pioneer Bridge carry the Pacific Highway across the gorge on this sharp Real Photo Postcard. Photographed by Oregon scenic photographer B. J. Patterson under negative number 1502 and printed on DOPS photographic paper, the view shows the old lower road winding along the bottom of the canyon directly beneath the massive concrete piers. The unposted reverse carries a fountain pen New Year greeting dated December 27, 1932 along with a light pencil collector mark near the top edge.
As an authentic vintage piece, this item may show typical signs of age, which can include minor edge wear, soft or bumped corners, slight yellowing, and light surface blemishes. Please carefully examine all provided high-resolution photos for the most accurate and definitive representation of the item's condition prior to purchasing. Trivia Corner
Completed in 1931 across the Shasta River Canyon north of Yreka in Siskiyou County, California, the Pioneer Bridge eliminated a treacherous stretch of 75 curves along the old Pacific Highway canyon route. In 1932 the American Institute of Steel Construction honored this 795 foot span as the most beautiful medium sized steel bridge built in the United States.
