Gelatin Silver print ofa devastating blaze on September 12, 1902, at the Spindletop oil field near Beaumont, Texas. This event was famously captured in photographs by Frank J. Trost. It was the first major well fire at the site, destroying 20 wells, multiple storage tanks, and pumping equipment.

This is an Iconic image of the Texas Oil and Gas Legacy - For over 100 years the oil and gas industry has been a cornerstone of the Texas economy and the Lone Star way of life - even a big part of the image of Texas worldwide.
