Up for sale is a stunning, substantial piece of Southwest history. This is an authentic vintage 1970s Navajo sterling silver squash blossom necklace featuring detailed turquoise and red coral chip-inlay peyote bird (waterbird) motifs.
The necklace features ten beautifully crafted peyote bird blossoms leading down to a large, prominent central Naja pendant. The peyote bird design is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Native American Church, symbolizing renewal, wisdom, and healing.
Key Details:
• Weight: Very heavy and solid at 157.9 grams of sterling silver.
• Length: Measures approximately 21 inches from end to end (hangs down about 10-11 inches when worn). Please see photos with the tape measure for exact dimensions.
• Chain Style: Single Strand Fluted Navajo Pearl Bench Beads. Fluted texture adds incredible depth and character.
• Clasp: Traditional vintage hook on one side and a ring on the other.
• Hallmarks: Stamped "STERLING" on the reverse side of the Naja pendant. As is very common for authentic Native American bench-work of this era, there is no artist hallmark.Necklace is in good vintage condition with a beautiful natural aged patina. The silver has not been harshly cleaned to preserve its original vintage character.
Please note: There is one very small chip in the red coral chip-inlay section on the lower right peyote bird blossom (visible in the close-up photos). This minor blemish does not detract from the overall beauty or structural integrity of this incredible collector's piece and can be easily restored by a specialist if desired.
