Three pieces. All gem mint. All polybagged. All with original instructions intact. A matched lot of this quality does not exist anywhere else.
The History: In the early 1980s, Doug Henning partnered with Tenyo Japan to produce a series of magic sets under the banner "Doug Henning Magic You Can Do." The venture never reached retail as originally planned — the Tenyo components were eventually sold off and the individually polybagged tricks found their way into magic shops through secondary distribution channels. With instructions crediting both Doug Henning and Jim Steinmeyer, these pieces occupy a unique intersection of Tenyo collecting and magic history memorabilia. As very few examples survive intact with both the prop and original instructions together, complete examples in this condition are genuinely scarce.
The Three Pieces:
See Through Card — A spectator selects one of three playing cards. After two apparent mistakes, the spots of the chosen card jump off onto a clear plastic folder and imprint themselves onto a plastic sheet. The magic printing is a fully examinable illusion. By Doug Henning and Jim Steinmeyer.
Wonder Window — A playing card is placed inside a transparent frame. A solid plastic bar is pushed through the center of the card — visibly, completely, impossibly. The card and frame can be examined before and after. By Doug Henning and Jim Steinmeyer. Tenyo T-114, created by Shigeru Sugawara.
Tunnel of Darkness — A card is placed in a tunnel. The tunnel is pushed through, and the card has visibly changed. A stunning close-up illusion. By Doug Henning and Jim Steinmeyer.
Why this lot matters: This is not a Tenyo listing for the casual buyer. This is a matched gem mint set for the serious collector — whether your focus is Tenyo Japan, Doug Henning memorabilia, or Jim Steinmeyer's body of work. All three pieces together in this condition almost certainly do not exist as a matched lot anywhere else on the market. The failed commercial history of the Doug Henning Magic venture means production numbers were severely limited, and survival rates for complete intact examples with original instructions are low.
