This exceptional antique real photo postcard features a charming young woman posing in an extraordinarily unusual dress, probably dating from approximately 1920–1925. Her elaborate clothing, whimsical pose and striking accessories make this a particularly appealing example of early twentieth-century fashion photography. The young woman wears a sleeveless dress with a striking combination of bold horizontal stripes and an elaborate floral pattern. The lower portion consists of multiple tiers of light-colored, finely pleated ruffles that create an exceptionally distinctive silhouette. Her outfit is completed by an unusual fabric hat with a gathered, ruffled brim and patterned crown. Long curls frame her face beneath the hat. Of particular interest are her remarkable shoes, which resemble theatrical or dance slippers, with dark ribbons crossing over her white stockings and tying around her ankles. She holds a small bouquet of flowers in both hands, tilts her head and smiles for the photographer. Although the photograph dates from the flapper era, the outfit differs considerably from the more familiar straight-cut dresses and close-fitting cloche hats associated with the Roaring Twenties. The elaborate tiered skirt, fanciful hat and ribbon-tied footwear suggest the possibility of theatrical, dance or fancy-dress attire. The studio setting is equally attractive, featuring an elaborate painted backdrop with decorative architectural elements and foliage, together with an intricately patterned floor covering. The reverse bears the distinctive AZO photographic paper stamp box. This configuration is generally dated to 1918–1930, supporting an approximate early-1920s date for this photograph. The card is unused, with no handwriting, postage stamp or postmark. The postcard is in very good antique condition overall, with some age-related imperfections. There is difficult to see, light scattered spotting near the upper left corner of the card.
