Set of three vintage hand-carved and hand-painted wooden character figures by Jaschke Figuren, mid-20th century. Each figure stands on a carved wooden base with its German title burned into the front. The knife-cut faceted surfaces and expressive faces are typical of traditional German and Alpine folk carving. The set includes: • \"Der Wildschütz\" (The Poacher): crouching with his rifle, feathered Tyrolean hat and edelweiss belt.
• \"Der Herr Oberförster\" (The Head Forester): bearded, with pipe, rifle over his shoulder, and walking stick
• \"Hört ihr Herrn…\" (The Night Watchman): in a long cloak with lantern and staff; the title is the opening line of the traditional German watchman\'s song. Maker and provenance: One figure retains its original labels on the base: \"Original Handgeschnitzt – Jaschke Figuren\" and a retailer label from Tischer, Heidelberg, Hauptstraße. The other two are unlabeled but match exactly in carving style, paint, base form, and burned title lettering. Heidelberg was home to a major U.S. Army headquarters after WWII, and sets like this were popular souvenirs.Size: Approximately 5.5” to 7” tall.Condition: Good vintage condition with light age-appropriate wear. • Oberförster: the hat ornament (feather or tuft) is broken off at the base, with raw wood visible (see close-up photo). Light paint wear at the rifle. No repairs or repainting. Please see all photos, as they are part of the description.
