Vintage Polish Christ Pantocrator Pan Swiata Hand Painted Wood Icon 9\" x 12\' READ
Vintage pre-owned condition with a significant vertical split running through the center of the wooden panel and continuing through the painted and gilded surface. There is additional age-related surface wear, scratching, rubbing, small losses to the gilded background, and edge/corner wear. The image remains vivid and displays well despite the split. Please review all photographs closely for exact condition.Description:
Vintage hand-painted Christian icon depictingChrist Pantocrator, traditionally representing Christ as ruler and Lord of the world.
The reverse is hand-inscribed in Polish:
“CHRYSTUS – ‘PAN ŚWIATA’”
which translates to:
“Christ – ‘Lord of the World.’”
The icon is painted directly on a substantial wooden panel and features a luminous gilt/gold-tone background. Christ is depicted frontally with a cruciform halo, one hand raised in blessing and the other holding an open Gospel book, following traditional Byzantine and Eastern Christian iconography.
Visible brushwork throughout the face, garments, hands and book indicates that this is an individually hand-painted piece rather than a printed reproduction.

Important condition note:The wood panel has a prominent vertical split extending the full height of the icon. This is clearly visible from both the front and reverse and has been fully photographed. Purchased as is at an estate sale. It may have been repaired previously.
