This rare 1970s counter-culture pinback button was produced for the Youth International Party, better known as the Yippies. The design features a striking red five-pointed star overlaid with a green cannabis leaf set against a deep black background. The circular text surrounding the central graphic reads \"STOP 1984 IN 1976,\" referencing the Orwellian fears of the era, while also listing specific protest dates and locations: NYC July 11-14 and KC Aug 15-19. These dates correspond to the 1976 Democratic National Convention in New York City and the Republican National Convention in Kansas City, where the Yippies organized significant demonstrations.Constructed as a classic celluloid over tin button, this piece measures approximately 1.25 inches in diameter. The reverse features a standard straight pin back mechanism typical of 1970s political and protest memorabilia. The bold color palette of red, green, and white on black makes for a high-contrast, visually arresting piece of political history. This is a must-have for collectors of 1970s radical politics, cannabis culture history, or George Orwell-inspired ephemera.
