For sale today is this terrific original Volunteer Enlistment Document for 16th year old Augustus Hazelton.
Augustus Hazelton, a teenage Union soldier from Grayville, Illinois enlisted at just 16 years old on March 26, 1864, into Company B of the 60th Illinois Infantry Regiment. This scarce and historically compelling document represents a late-war recruit from southern Illinois and is tied to a soldier whose service was tragically brief—Hazelton died only four months later on July 26, 1864, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a major Union hospital center during the Atlanta Campaign.
Very rare document in nice condition. Has some age, wear and staining. How this survived, I'll never know! Terrific document! Thanks for looking.
